A young Penzance man has turned his life around with our help. Ross Jasper has gone from strength to strength most recently becoming a Trainee Housing Coordinator after working his way up in an apprenticeship in our Lettings team.
Ross once lived in the Coach House Foyer in Cornwall which provides accommodation and independent living support to young homeless people and grasped every opportunity he was given by the housing provider including the help and encouragement to apply for an apprenticeship.
This month Ross won the prestigious South West Regional Apprentice awards at an awards ceremony in Bristol for his commitment to his apprentice Lettings Adviser role. During his apprenticeship, Ross used his understanding about the stresses of looking for somewhere to live to help other people. The awards recognise apprenticeship talent across the south west in all sectors and at all levels.
Ross Jasper, Trainee Housing Coordinator said: “After all the support the organisation gave me to help me with having my own home and gaining confidence and self-esteem I was encouraged to apply for an apprenticeship with them. I have loved every minute of my challenging lettings role and was so happy to win an award, it feels amazing. This proves how fantastic the apprenticeships are; they really are a great way of launching your career. I have gained an advanced level 3 in Business Administration and am loving being part of the neighbourhood team, who knows where it will take me next but my life has changed so much and it feels great.”
Over the last 18 months, we have recruited 28 apprentices and have had 200 new starters over the past 12 months representing growth and investment in the region’s economy and employment market. Our ongoing investment in staff includes healthcare plans, loyalty award schemes and policies to support flexible working as well as volunteering projects.
Suzanne Hourahine, People Development Manager said: “Our apprentices have made fantastic progress, working hard and being the very best that they can possibly be. It’s encouraging to see that the National Apprenticeship Awards understand the challenges that apprentices overcome in their roles. Ross and our other apprentices make us so proud of their hard work. We congratulate, not only Ross for his achievements but all of our apprentices. They have done so well already and I can see really exciting futures for them ahead.”
Luke Dymond, Lettings Manager said: “We constantly strive for excellence and being recognised for a national award reinforces its vision of excellence and underlines the hard work of the whole team.”
