DCH helps Exeter get Sugar Smart

Thursday 16/02/2017

As part of our ongoing commitment to helping our customers live healthy lifestyles, we are thrilled to be supporting Sugar Smart. The campaign raises awareness and aims to reduce the amount of sugar we consume by making a pledge and creating a food environment that makes it easier to make healthier food and drink choices.

Our Community investment strategy sets out our organisation’s vision for future investment in the south west for a five-year period. Key programmes within this strategy focus on health and wellbeing and delivering these alongside our customers and partners.

Paul Marshall, Director of Community Investment, said: “We want everyone within our communities to have the opportunity to live healthy and happy lives and where possible we do our bit to help. Backing Sugar Smart and raising awareness is one of the ways we can do this. We recognise that many people are consuming excess sugar, often through foods that appear healthy at first glance. The outcomes can be weight gain and health issues such as heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and cancer. Sugar Smart is helping people understand they can reduce their sugar intake and still have great tasting food.”
